Automation in manufacturing: why machines don't take people's jobs

"This machine will put me out of a job..."
We hear this phrase more often in manufacturing companies than one might think. And we understand it. The fear of change is natural - it applies not only to operators, but also to managers and directors.

The reality is different

Automation does not mean that people will lose their jobs. It means work will change.

What's disappearing:

  • physical exertion,

  • monotonous activities,

  • Repetitive risk tasks.

What remains and grows:

  • operator experience,

  • more interesting and responsible tasks,

  • higher added value of their work.

So automation is not pushing people to the side - on the contrary, it is putting them at the centre of the production process with a greater role than before.

When they speak out

Our experience is clear: when we sit down with the operators and explain what is coming up, the atmosphere changes quickly. Fears disappear and cooperation comes.

Often, they come up with ideas where the machine could help. They know best what is holding them back every day. And that's when the phrase we like best comes in:

"Yeah, you're going to help us. Thank you." 🙂

Conclusion

Automation is not a threat but an opportunity. It brings greater efficiency and safety, but also a better working environment for people.
